Superior and more malleable than steel, they can be used in conjunction with o-ringed blocks allowing better sealing even on the cylinder head side. Great for overly planed cylinder heads. Increased gasket thickness in R16 applications will lower compression and/or provide clearance between valve pocket and dome of pistons if needed. In U20 applications, it will also lower compression and/or make the upper chain tight. In addition, all factory and aftermarket gaskets can suffer in both applications because the bore area of the gaskets are always made oversized to accomodate oversized pistons. R16 Nissan head gasket thickness is .062. Most aftermarket R16 gaskets are.054 thick. U20 Nissan head gasket thickness is .054 thick and Stone aftermarket gasket.058 thick. Add these numbers to how much has been milled off the bottom of your head for R16 heads and the top and bottom of U20 heads. In regards to U20 cylinder heads.
