Partnumber: 2123 Datsun Roadster and Fairlady Front Air Dam Great new air dam. Well, not exactly new so the story goes from Dick Tillinger. Dick Tillinger used Scott Sheeler's Bre air dam as a starting point for a new mold after Sheeler closed Rising Sun. Others bought and copied Dick Tilinger's version. Then others bought the others. This new, improved version is the best we have seen so far. More uniform in appearance with added carbon fiber layered into the hand laid glass for greater durability and strength while preserving a light weight composite structure. Polyester resin, primered and ready for paint. A fastener kit is provided. We can't take credit for the improvements to the original. Kudos to Tad K. for the mold improvements. Tad is a Academy Award winner(read on below) and has been a mold maker for many years. He graduated from a Technical College of Geo-Physics overseas. In 1973 he came to England and settled there where he worked on model airplanes for private collectors and museum displays. In 1978, he was contacted through the local hobby shop by movie producers and was offered a position in the miniature model department for "Superman I". This was the start of a 20 year career in the movie business. Whilst working for Henson's in London, Tad was approached by George Lucas who engaged him to work at Industrial Light & Magic at Lucas Film LTD. In 1980's, Tad received an Academy Award for Technical Achievement for his inventions used during the making of a Lucas Sci-Fi film and yes I've seen the award! Tad also designed one of the first minature, single stage, kerosene powered turbines from parts he machined and designed on his own and has a extensive backround in aerodynamics and jet powered flying models. Tad is considered a master mold maker in the film industry and has designed and constructed thousands of molds. 2 distinct versions will be offered. Both come with a 10 piece machine screw set. The 1st is shown here. The 2nd has a 1 1/2 inch extension on the upper lip providing more rigidity of the structure and also allowing a cleaner look. Click here to view this version. New photos, 2nd and 3rd picture, of our air dam compared to a knock off of the original. Lots of changes were made in the mold to work out the problems of the original. The biggest problem being the lack of parallel lines especially on the mounting surface! In both photos, our part from the revamped mold, is in the top portion of each photo. The slight price increase reflects the effort to create a better product. |
