HISTORY: Distributor originally designed for other Nissan Vehicles by Nissan. The first version we saw was converted by Bill Beaubier in south bay in the late 80's. Credit to Bill for being clever and resourceful to bring it into the mainstream with a off the shelf ready to install distributor. We then picked up the manufacturing and offered a brand new, not rebuilt, distributor for $345.00 that had different mechanical advance offerings to suit a customers particular needs. Bill also gave, exclusively to us, the never produced, schematic and a sample 1500 Fairlady distributor for the SPL-310 positive ground cars in development now for Winter 2008 delivery.

Gary Boone mass marketed the E.I. distributor in 2001 which helped the roadster community get out of the dark ages of electrical firing and offered a great instruction sheet and customer support. Dave Brisco purchased the rights to produce these distributors from Gary and will continue to offer this fine product.

UPGRADED PARTS: All SU versions have a NEW vacuum advance, cap and rotor are brass contacts, not the more common aluminum contacts. A new oring is included. Wire harnesses are all new wires and connectors, not extended junkyard harnesses. RHD harness also available. Instructions are included with your distributor containing important information regarding parts and step by step instructions.

CONSTRUCTION: All SU units are now made with roller (Torrington) bearing in the breaker plate instead of the original Nissan plastic bearing cage or a fabricated plastic replacement. Breaker plate is disassembled, brittle OEM plastic bearing cage and bearings are discarded. (it’s usually broken in pieces anyway). The upper plate halves are welded for stability and a very thin, but large diameter roller bearing and hardened races replaces the 3 OEM ball bearings and weak plastic cage assembly. The much larger surface area of the roller bearing gives firmer support and frictionless movement. The bearing assemblies are rated for about 1000 times the tiny load of the breaker plate. The completed assemblies are dimensionally the same as the original. Solex units, as before, have a non-rotating locked breaker plate. The plastic cage and bearing are also eliminated during the rebuild.

TESTING: All distributors are spun up and function tested on an Allen distributor testing machine to 5000+ RPM, the limit of the tester. Verified on an oscilloscope if needed. These units easily throw a 1 inch or longer blue spark from a 12 volt performance coil and reinforce the need for high quality spark plug wires.

SPECIAL COIL NOTE:A 12 volt coil is required for this conversion. The factory coil will overheat and fail. An aftermarket replacement can be used with the proper specs, Primary resistance from 0.84 to 1.02 Ohms, secondary 8.2 to 12.4 Kilo Ohms.

LT Warranty excludes cap and rotor.

Made for 12 Volt ignition systems. Petronix says you can run full 12 volts as long as the coil measures 3 ohms of primary resistance. To check resistance on your coil disconnect all wires to the coil. Put each wire from your Ohm Meter to each side of the coil and read the resitance. Do not elimate the ballast resistor if the measurement is below 3 ohms. Read instructions carefully when installing. Much better than points. This is a economy alternative.
